JK Harris & Company Ends Back Tax Nightmare For Hotel Clerk In Tennessee
Tax representation firm JK Harris & Company assists client in applying for the IRS' Offer in Compromise program, successfully negotiating a payment that was less than two percent of what she originally owed the IRS.

GOOSE CREEK, SC, February 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Back tax problems will keep anyone up at night. For one hotel clerk from Dyersburg, Tennessee her nightmare came in the form of an IRS debt she could not afford to pay.

Jackie Capps was unaware that the distribution that she and her former spouse took in 2001 from a life insurance policy would bring on tax problems. They took the distribution to help meet their living expenses, but unfortunately, taking the distribution caused them to be placed into a higher tax bracket. This triggered a tax liability they were unable to repay.

In 2010, Ms. Capps came to us as a single mom with the tax debt she was struggling to try to repay. She had arranged an installment agreement with the IRS, but could not afford the payments on her salary. That's when she contacted JK Harris & Company for assistance.

JK Harris analyzed her financial situation, determining Ms. Capps was a likely candidate for an Offer in Compromise.

An Offer in Compromise is an agreement between the IRS and the taxpayer that allows the taxpayer's delinquent tax debt to be compromised for less than the amount owed. The offered dollar amount is based on the taxpayer's net worth plus their future income potential, in other words, what the taxpayer is actually able to pay.

"JK Harris was very helpful," said Capps. "They always stayed in contact with me and answered any questions I may have had. They got me an offer (in compromise) in a timely manner."

For Capps, that amount was significantly less, just under two percent of the original debt. JK Harris presented documentation to the IRS on behalf of Ms. Capps, showing she could not pay her back tax debt. They showed the IRS her monthly expenses were more than her monthly income and she had no equity in a car or home that she could sell to pay off the tax debt.

"(I am) so glad they could help me," said Ms. Capps. "I am very thankful to JK Harris & Company."
