People who wear glasses want to look good as well as see correctly.

Nicky Hambleton-Jones, who presented Channel 4's Ten Years Younger, said the guide to choosing the right specs is in the shape of your face.

Round faces should be broken up with wide and narrow angular frames that help to contrast soft structures and make them appear longer, she said, while wider, more rounded glasses should be paired with oblong faces.

Meanwhile, people with heart-shaped faces should avoid choosing frames that are narrower at the bottom when spending unsecured loans or payday loans on glasses, as they can make faces appear top-heavy.

When it comes to style, retro 50s designs have made a big comeback and look sexy yet sophisticated, added Ms Hambleton-Jones.

"Cat eye shapes and a single frame running along the upper rim of the lens look utterly feminine while square, wide, thick-rimmed frames are hugely popular with both men and women for a geek chic, Clark Kent look," she explained.

However, classic frames will never go out of fashion and it is a good idea to invest in one or two timeless designs to weather all fashion trends.

When being fitted for glasses, the style expert said it is vital to make sure the bridge sits comfortably on your nose and does not wobble.

"It's also very important that the arms of the glasses are not too tight or leave pressure marks on your temples as over time this can cause pain and even headaches," she went on to say.

Some celebrities who are well-known for their specs appeal include Jonny Depp, Jake Gyllenhaal, Julia Roberts and, of course, Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter.
